Your Excellency, people are leaving the Church for a variety of reasons, among them, what you pointed out. i wish to illustrate to you in terms of their questions and also offer some feedback that hopefully gets remedied. quickly pay attention to the fact that your audience here are young adults below 30, and children. elephant in the room: young people view the Hebrew God and the Church as a sex-obsessed, sex-crazed control freak. whose main function is to control people how to act and behave when it comes to sex above all else. It is not, obviously, but unfortunately for the Church, perception is reality for them. i suggest that sex is ignored and instead of even discussing sex, shaming it, helping criminalize evolutionary behavior and sexuality, de-prioritize it like Jesus did in the Gospels. Leave the homosexuals alone, they're already loving their fellow men. They have a leg up compared to Christians when it comes to loving one another. Prioritize feeding the hungry, aiding the poor, taking care of the sick, welcoming the stranger, aiding the weak, fighting injustice, exposing lies. does God exist? why should he exist? how would you know? is he good? you’ll be surprised that today’s young children are very capable of formulating and understanding even very complex philosophical abstract concepts. to be dismissive would be to lose them immediately. the endless whys of a child must be satisfied. it’s practicing ontology. nothing exists without a cause. the foundations of mathematics is a helpful illustration why God exists that you can’t prove nor disprove his existence but merely accept or deny it. science is not in conflict with the Catholic faith. God created the laws of nature and therefore it cannot be in conflict with history and the faith. Jesus and the Church exists in history and there are sufficient proofs present. some questions may remain unanswered for a long time, but evidence has a way of coming to light in due time. ”for nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light.” Physics says that even the conservation of information guarantees that nothing vanishes without a trace. the big difference between children and young adults: attention span. children 5 mins; young adults 10 mins. answers must fit in a tweet or soundbites. prioritize and integrate if not entirely devote the sermon during mass to the catechism, instead of the awful commentaries that make people want to shoot themselves. DEMAND THAT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OBLIGE STUDENTS TO READ AND KNOW THE BOOKS OF MOSES AND THE GOSPELS. and test them to make sure they read it. we do not demand them to believe, but we demand them to read and know, for to not do that is an act of supreme selfishness. ‘after this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. so Jesus said to the twelve, “do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? you have the words of eternal life” for i am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the jew first and also to the gentile. who is Jesus? is he a jew? who killed him? what makes him special? he’s just like Buddha and Muhammad. “behold the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when i will send a famine on the land-not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.” so faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Your Excellency, quoting the words of the Lord is the difference between Catholic clergy and non-Catholic clergy. i have heard a protestant preach for 10 minutes only simply by quoting the bible, with minimal interjections. interjections go only as far as explaining what the word or words meant in the hebraic context and no more. the sermon was like watching a stand-up comic with 10 minutes to perform his routine except everyone was kept in stunned silence because it was like listening to God himself - which indeed it was. for the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. “is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that smashes a rock?" tell priests to stop inane commentaries and analogies. kids are bored to death and want to flee it. they are more intelligent than you think. the sermon in the mass should be devoted to the catechism. there is no sense of beauty and the sacred in the mass. it is devolving into a grating performance by the priests. why should people be baptized and be Catholic? just be good, it’s all the same. “i am the way, the truth, and the life. no one comes to the father except through me.” “truly, truly, i say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” make people repeat the Athanasian creed every Sunday so that they may also understand what is a Catholic. SATANISTS BELIEVE IN THE TRUE PRESENCE MORE THAN CATHOLICS. receiving the body of christ in the hand is one diabolical method the Church has allowed these people to desecrate and defile the Lord. I BEG YOU TO END THIS PRACTICE. “do you love me?” he said to him, “yes, Lord; you know that i love you.” he said to him, “tend my sheep.” compare Catholic outreach on youtube to zev porat, jews for Jesus, and one minute apologists, watch dr. Michael brown. Catholic media outreach should create and teach on youtube in 5 minute segments.

I haven't seen "The Crown", but I can't help feeling skeptical whenever power, politics and religion are combined. If auto-salvation were possible, God would not have sent his only begotten Son. It is the primacy of God's love, his love for his people that he sent his only begotten Son. Grace is a facet of God's love... God's love is active in the world ... and those that have eyes to see and ears to hear are able to perceive it.

Perhaps we have to go back to the basics. First of all prayer, pray for the “nones” in your life. Praying should the first resort not your last. Offer up your Mass and rosary for them. Second talk about your faith in conversations in an open way. Talk about going to Mass and receiving the Eucharist. Talk about praying the rosary and the Saints. You’d be surprised how interested people become when you mention these things. Even if they’re “ non-affiliated.”

The big bang was not the beginning. There were other universes and other big bangs before our universe existed. There will be more bangs after our universe ceases to exist. To think our big bang and universe is the only one around and that it includes all existence is opposed to all scientific understanding. Events never happen only once in nature. With everything that is in nature, known and unknown, there is no evidence that a supreme being exists; there is also no evidence that the being does not exist. Science relies on facts and data. No facts support a god. Religion relies on faith. Faith is based on nothing but feelings. No proof either way. The only thing we as humans need is the freedom to think and believe the way we want and agree to disagree.

I don't particularly like the term "social justice" since those that often promote it often undermine real justice. The church is its people... and its people are its life... it should be there from cradle to grave, with Christ as its head, supporting the building of families and creating community. The youth need meaningful ways to serve. When I was 14, I worked as a volunteer at a Catholic hospital. That was over 35 years ago. The nurses appreciated having me there and increased my responsibilites over time. One of the most memorable moments was when they asked if I would feed an elderly woman that was not able to eat on her own. I still remember it clearly. If you fast forward to 2019, society has become incredibly legalistic and what I could do at 14, is no longer possible without licensing. This is true in many areas of society. You can't have a thriving church and a large government... the two are not possible... government policies routinely undermine the faith. I get discouraged when I hear people of faith say, we have to pray for world leaders to end poverty... the monetary policies that are routinely supported by the world leaders actually contribute to poverty with the debasement of the currency, punishing those that want to save, creating wider gaps between the rich and the poor, wiping out the middle class. The youth are inheriting a large government debt that is growing at an unprecidented pace... they are being asked to fight illegal and immoral wars, and are faced with less opportunities and greater restrictions. The answers are there... they are however not found in politics as usual, but rather in liberty, in church teaching that promotes true human freedom and is a light that leads to a culture of life and a flourishing civilization.

To help them back to the Catholic or the other religious sects is to teach them that this images is the covenant of Our Lord Christ to us who believe in him. Pope Francis posed happily with one of these prosperity 'pushers', Kenneth Copeland, who was invited to the Vatican. From the current financial scandals in the Vatican, involving billions of euros, and apparently several members of the hierarchy, it seems that some at the pinnacle of the Church have adopted this 'gospel' with great enthusiasm. Motes and beams come inescapably to mind. Cardinal Dolan's home is probably as swish as any prosperity gospel preacher not to mention those of other (especially) US and German Catholic bishops, archbishops and cardinals.

Thank you, Bishop Barron, for this video and the powerful ideas expressed. In my experience (which I would argue is fairly ubiquitous in the Church) there is a crisis in the current practice of the sacred liturgy in most places. While my "evidence" for this is admittedly anecdotal, I have attended Mass in many parishes across four dioceses, and I would surmise that in less than 5% (10 % if I were to be generous) of these can one encounter the beauty and tradition of the Church in the liturgy. This seems to suggest a crisis, which I hope and pray the hierarchy and laity will address more squarely. Thank you, Bishop, for your service to God and the Church!

The Holy Spirit can be understood easily by making a comparison between Revelation 1: 1 and John 16: 13. Jehovah gives a revelation to Christ Jesus, who passed it to his angel, who then gave it to John in signs. So the one who 'does not speak of his own impulse, but what things he hears he will speak' is the angel. The Holy Spirit is not a person. This is a misunderstanding. The Holy Spirit is God's Active force.

A clear understanding of the Holy Spirit is found by comparing Revelation 1: 1 with John 16: 13. A revelation from Jehovah God is passed to Christ Jesus; who then passes it to his angel, who then presented it to John in signs. So the 'one who will not speak of his own impulse, but what things he hears he will speak' is the angel. So the 'Holy Spirit' is not a person. It is God's active force. In the account of Pentecost 33 CE, Acts 2: 1-4 the Holy Spirit was 'distributed about' upon all of them, like 'tongues of fire' upon all of their heads. Was this a person? NO This idea came from the Great apostasy 2Thessalonians 2: 3. Where did the idea of the 'trinity' come from, originally? It was a product of a long process of voting. Significant in the voting process are the ones who didn't vote because they were murdered by the ones who did vote, to prevent them from voting. OPEN your history books, and discern the character of these men who claimed to know the nature of God. “Listen of Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.” Deuteronomy 6: 4.”Is it not one father that all of us have? Is it not one God that has created us?” Malachi 2: 10 Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.” [God and good are derived from the same root words] The Trinity is a false teaching. It is a facet of Jehovah in the intelligent creation to allow for free will. So Jehovah has free will, and Christ has free will; and the ransom sacrifice of Christ now has real meaning. They are individuals with a common purpose. John 17: 21 which includes those true Christians also. The little window on the bottom left of your computer. You can find out anything. One of the men who was part of the 'trinity' voting process roasted his fellow slowly to death; due to a difference of opinion about the nature of God. ITS EASY to find out this history. That man that murdered his fellow: where was his mercy? Or his righteousness? Or his Justice, compassion, sound judgement, fear of God.... So what did he really know about the true God, and Christ's teachings, to love our neighbour as ourselves? FIND OUT what kind of men you are trusting in the matter of this teaching, and when you discern the facts YOU will see why this teaching is a fallacy that brings no honour to God. This is one of the things that Satan the Devil has introduced as part of the Great apostasy 2Thessalonians 2: 3 because he doesn't want us to know the truth, or worship in spirit and truth.

I am a GAY CATHOLIC, I live with my partner , we are very much in Love, age 60. I bought my partner back to the church ( he left the church age 17) we met in our mid 50's. We both attend church at least twice a week and YES we both take communion ( don't faint all you dogmatic die hards ! We will let God be the judge of our fate, not you !) I do find it amazing and deeply sad, how completely negative all these nasty comments are which follow this video. I am actually a great fan of Bishop Barron even though I completely disagree with how the church reflects on gay marriage. My partner and I are not married, we both had families and children and terrible marriages, had to divorce and found absolute love, in fact we are the love of each others lives. And...we have the most beautiful, unbreakable love for Jesus I could ever explain. But I feel God made us this way, I remember sitting in a little church next to St Paul's in Rome, praying to Jesus to help me find the love of my life and 2 months later I met him. Don't judge so harshly, Bishop Barron, you over intellectualise to the point of almost sounding incoherent....maybe try to open your heart instead . Everyone should have a choice, God gave us free will to Love....if a man loves a man or woman loves another woman, who is the body of the church to treat us with such disdain . Isn't there room for all of us in Gods house ? I believe in Jesus, I feel him, I love him, he is within me and I in him. I know if he were physically present here today, he would embrace me. God bless you all, I pray for you and I pray even more that you one day realise the true meaning of LOVE , COMPASSION and ACCEPTANCE.

As I see it, many young people want to be responcibile, helpful, do something good for community. Maybe becouse of thirst for responsibility and serenity so many young people love Dr. Peterson, maybe so many find serenity in tradition and latin mass? What did we do to Christmass? How do we talk and how behave? And justice.. yes, many are thirsty for justice! May dear God forgive me if I say something wrong. But how are we going to talk about justice when many pedophile priests don’t see the court as all other people accused for the same crime? Pedophiles out of church are far more exposed, when come to priests we want to hide. Civil law is not for all the same. Were early christians accused for the same crimes? I don’t think so. We love to talk about morality much, and don’t do so much to protect the most wounerable- children! May dear God bless us all!

As a former-Hindu and new-Christian convert (getting baptized in 5 hours!), I will always admire the Christian love and obsession with the natural order, and I am forever grateful for their continuation of the Thomistic (which has its roots in Aristotle) tradition of the Natural Law! It is a biological fact that high promiscuity leads to higher degrees of r-selection within man and that r-selection is inherently dysgenic to any and all species (for those who don't know, r-selection is one of two major reproductive strategies for all animals; r-selection is dysgenic as it disfavors choosing quality partners and is merely meant to keep a species alive through mass production at random). With high degrees of r-selection, intelligence (a biologically determined trait of every man) drops dramatically and mankind reverts to an almost animal-like state (even with free will, intelligence helps us see "long term" versus "short term" goals). This, in turn, leads to higher time preferences (aka: an increasingly lower degree of being able to defer gratification among our society's individuals) within society and to a consumption of the one thing that makes our high living standards a possibility: Savings and capital. With all capital consumed (likely through socialism as a result of everyone wanting "more now"), we eventually enter into a Malthusian catastrophe where there are too few producers and resources to sustain our current population. And that, of course, means societal chaos and a collapse of man in his entirety. In short, to follow promiscuity, lust, gluttony, etc. is to follow Satan to our doom. Christ and the Lord are proven through the anatomical, physiological and epigenetic nature of man and the natural world, and ontology is all we need to prove Christ.

Lincoln was charged with preserving the Union...an existential charge for the USA. The local Bishop is not charged (or at least not explicitly) charged with an existential challenge. The Church will endure with or without a particular Bishop, so I think the question, "What is is that YOU want?", is a bit unfair to the Bishop. Maybe the question would have more pertinence applied to the Pope than to the Bishop of Paris, or of Los Angeles, etc.

The church is here for one reason. Through orthodox faith, protect and spread the gateway to Gods kingdom shown to humanity by our Lord Jesus Christ. You, Bishop, need a refresher course. As do 99% of the clergy. It’s called the Latin Mass.

People leave because they were not chatechised, do not understand the role of Mary, the saints praying for the dead etc.. .not understanding the Catholic rituals...and also some priests simply did not preach they mumbled to themselves...

The problem with many young people today and even Dorthy Day is that they do not advocate for people to willingly use their private property for the good of the people rather they are calling for the complete abolishment of private property in favor of communism. She praised Karl Marx and said that there can be a "Christian Communism." The only person who talks like that is someone who doesn't know about the bloodshed of the 20th century or someone who doesn't care. She praised Fidel Castro's hostile and violent takeover of Cuba, as he was closing Catholic Churches and said that she looked forward to seeing how it turned out. She obviously knew about the bloodshed and thought that it was worth it to have yet another go at communism. This is not social justice rather it is injustice. The idea of "putting social justice first and turning it over to the kids" sounds good to the ear and will get you popularity among liberals but if you truly analyze what that means it is a disaster.

Tradition, traditional Latin Mass, hard truths, stop appealing to the world, and start being authentically, unapologetically Catholic.

I doubt it that social justice be first on the list. I think it is sexual purity and magnificence (St. Thomas).

Im a Jordan Peterson fan. but as much as i love him this video makes me realise that he is actually pelagian. In other words he preaches a kind of salvation through self exertion, through carrying your cross and walking up the hill of your destiny. This is fine as far as it goes but there is no talk of Gods love and forgiveness.

i would never bow to the pope because he is just a man. I do not worship man but the son of man. He i will bow too. Bowing to any man takes glory away from the most high.

Wikipedia: "Pelagius, an ascetic who is said to have come from Britain, was concerned about the retention of man's moral accountability in the face of God's omnipotence. *He strongly affirmed that men had free will and were able to choose good as well as evil. Pelagius denied that original sin had extinguished God's grace in Adam's heirs,* and that consequently mankind had the power to do good, to convert themselves from sin by their own power, and the ability to work out their own salvation. Religion's purpose is to teach us virtue, from which we can expect reward from God. By great efforts, it is possible for those in the flesh to achieve moral perfection." I find it unwise to take sides on a paradox, although such a statement probably nonetheless sides me with Anglicanism, or maybe Calvinism. The underlayer is the battle over The Eucharist and the recognition of authority, the fading of authority, the dispersal of powers, and basically, where the final resting place of authority is (who is the final arbiter of the word? or something like that). It's the sort of question that if answered, gives us the ability to discern who is a Saint (one who has attained final salvation), so, the church answered it in the manner nessisary to empower itself to do this. It's a truly aggravating paradox, in that the power play involved posits that man as a whole is in majoritaire either leaning towards good or evil, and that we should act to bring about the best conclusion before _we_ grant grace (defined as forgiveness, honestly, although i find translations of grace from the greek or the septuagint to be more mystifying than helpful, so we'll go with love as you suggest, Mr. Bishop Barron, as defined as having the interests of others first). So, my Judgement: _Gratias gratis data_ Perhaps, perhaps, the church falls because it covets the right of saving. As a result, the fetishization of the eucharist is supplanted by the covenant of baptism which more fully and obviously brings one into a consentual marriage with the church, which is what people want. Basically, and essentially, the church has miscalculated. 'You've' convinced _everyone_ they're adoptive sons of God, and yet persist in starting the hero's journey from the last supper rather than from the beginning of Christ's ministry (baptism). -Sincerely yours, God is Gracious

Because they tough worshipping images of Our Lord Christ is against the commandments. The images of Our Lord Christ is the covenant, the altar, the holy mountain, tabernacle, holy land, foot stool and many more.

TLM. Baltimore Catechism. Young people do understand the Catholic teaching on sexuality. The problem is that they have been corrupted by their predecessors. In the Church they are seeking renewal.

Great account of the only series i watch! Thank you Bishop Barron. It also struck me how faith played an important role in the Queen's life from the beginning. The episode with Princess Alice, the astronauts and Prince Philip's epiphany moments resonated profoundly!
